This Honey Balsamic Chicken Recipe comes from Kelly the Kitchen Kop's website...and she got if from Amy D.

I'm pretty used to Kelly having great recipes...but this one will be an all-time fav!

Anyone selling a Full/Queen Bed?

I'm looking to buy a full or queen bed (mattress, boxspring and frame if possible) in good condition for my 13 year old son. He is growing like a weed, and just tonight showed me how his feet hang off his twin bed! My husband wants to hit the garage sales, but I thought I'd try this first.
Please e-mail me at aubreysattic@hotmail.com if interesed in selling!
Thanks, Christy O.

Preschool Grduation Gowns

For any of you who had a child in the 4's class with the Marana Parks and Rec Playroom program, I have an odd request. I run a preschool from my home and I only have 5 children per class. After seeing the kids take their graduation gowns home with them today I got an idea. I was wondering if anyone of you would mind donating your child's gown to my preschool cause :) I don't want to take them if your child wants to keep theirs, but if they don't care and you don't know what to do with a random preschool graduation gown, I'll take it!! I only need five. Let me know if yours is up for the taking! Thanks,

Amber Kunz

Organic Pajamas @ Costco

The NW Costco has 100% Organic Cotton Kid Pajamas (Hanna Andersson brand) without flame retardant...for $11.99!

Google wouldn't let me upload any pics...but they are great!

They are nice, sturdy cotton, without feet (Great for Tucson Summers). It looked like they go up to size 3.

There were some really cute pink ones, but alas, I opted for the less cute boy-ish ones in every size...hoping they will last through, at least, one more kid.

I noticed some organic cotton Disney clothes there, as well...in case that sparks your interest!

Preschool drawing class

I'm excited to sign Miles up for this class to be held later this month!

Before Hailey was born I used to teach Young Rembrandt art classes at Rattle Snake Ridge Elementary and Estes Elementary in the afternoons. Having been involved with this program I felt that the classes helped the kids enjoy art and feel good about themselves and their abilities. I taught this same preschool art class over at YMCA a couple years back and found it was even more fun to teach the preschoolers than the older kids...they were so cute and so eager to participate!

So anyway, this class is close by and reasonably priced so I thought I'd spread the word! I have the director's contact info if you want more information about other classes.

Fun Kid sites

I have had a few people ask me about websites I let my kids go to and play (I have 4 kids, 5 and under).

My sister came over recently and was showing her 18 month old some fun music video clips that I loved. They are fun songs that get your kids moving or learning or both. Beware...they are silly, so don't be so serious. :)

His name is Eric Herman. The website is http://www.erichermanmusic.com/video.html
I haven't gone to everything on the site, but the playlist under the VIDEO button is what I have seen and like. (just click on the full screen button and let it play!) I don't know anything about costs of anything he sells, I am just letting you know about the fun FREE music video playlist he has up.

I also am a big fan of www.starfall.com. I think it helped my oldest learn to read. Although the leapfrog Letter Factory was a great start as well (I bought our DVD at Target).

Before we had cable my kids watched shows on Nickjr.com, pbskids.org and playhousedisney.com. Now they still like to but play games on there as well. I have a few other sites I let them go to, but if you want to know just ask, not sure what you are looking for!

What do you let your kids do on the computer?

seedlings

I have way too many seedlings sprouted in our little backyard garden and as the plants get bigger there just won't be room for all of them. So I need to thin things out a bit---but I don't like to kill perfectly good plants...

If anybody is interested I have some watermelon seedlings, a zucchini plant (started from a seed) with baby zucchinis already on it, and some Roma Tomato seedlings (still very small but I bet if you give them excellent soil and plenty of water they will do great).

Please let me know if you're interested!

BabySteals.com Website

Just wanted to pass this along...

I found this website babysteals.com and it looks like a good one to subscribe to.

One thing that caught my attention was the post about the glamour mom nursing tanks that they found on sale a little while ago (there is almost no inventory available, now, though).

These tanks are truly awesome and I remember spending a lot on one with Gwendolyn and only being able to buy ONE because of the cost. I'm sure plenty of women can wear the regular ones that are around $20 (half the price)...but I tried lots of those (walmart, target, etc) and they are definitely not made for those of us with big boobs that need lots of support : ).

You can get the GlamourMom tops with long length and they are very supportive, with thick material.

These can also be found on the Mom4life website (a real favorite of mine). At Mom4life, shipping is always free (no minimum) and I have found their prices to always be at, or below, the comps. Also, their customer service is impeccable! I have exchanged and returned countless things due to size, etc...they are always great to work with.

350!

We reached 350 Posts!! They add up fast! In honor of this accomplishment I updated the blog and gave it a little makeover. I had to use some photoshop skills to make it work, but hey. It was free! -Thanks to shabbyblogs.com.
I also started adding labels down at the bottom of the posts to categorize everything. I thought this might help. If you would like to help by labeling... that would be AWESOME. If not, that's ok too!

Happy 350! Keep the ideas and sharing coming!

Easter Egg Hunt?

I thought I would check and see if anyone knew of an Easter egg hunt for the kids in the area. I know of one in Continental Ranch, but thought I would check and see if there was one closer to home.

Little Busy Bodies Preschool 2010-2011

It's getting to be that time of year again where spring is upon us, and many preschools will begin registration in the next couple of months.

For anyone in search of a preschool, my name is Amber Kunz and I run Little Busy Bodies Preschool from my home in Continental Ranch (7509 W. Mission View Pl...if you want to Google it). I received my degree from BYU in Elementary and Early Childhood Education, so this is something that I have been trained to do. I taught second grade for two years and have taught several summers in various preschools. My program will be both academic and structured, but most importantly FUN, fostering those social skills that your child needs to be successful. Although I do not have a "professional" establishment, I do run my preschool as such. In fact, the reason that I began this endeavor was due to the fact that I wasn't finding the type of professional preschool that I wanted for my son within the community. My goal is to provide a developmentally appropriate learning experience for your children through active, hands-on learning. I want the children to enjoy themselves while they are at school and learn through play. I also believe that the heart of every classroom should be literacy. I plan on using quality children's books as the vehicle through which we learn the alphabet, writing, numbers, science, cooking, and more.
For the 2010-2011 school year, I will be offering two classes: M/W 9am-12pm (3-4 year olds) & T/TH 9am-12pm (4-5 year olds). Your child needs to turn 3 or 4 (depending on the age of class) by August 1, 2010. I will keep each class size at 5 children. Monthly tuition will be $100. Along with a completed registration packet, a non-refundable registration fee of $50 is required to hold your child's spot as well as assist me in purchasing classroom materials (crayons, markers, journals, etc.) .
I currently have one spot available in the 3-4 class and 4 spots available in the 4-5 class. If you are interested, please email me and I will send you a sneak peek slide show which will give you a better idea of my set up and range of activities.
Thanks!!

Rodeo!

It's Rodeo time and I know many of you have asked questions in the past and are asking me questions now. Every year I take my boys to the SLACK performances (Mon. Tues. and Wed. morning until they finish)

(Feb. 22,23, &24)

On Monday and Tuesday it's $5 for and adult and kids under 13 are FREE! (Parking Free too!) I always park on the East side of the stands... This is where the families usually sit. It is not crowded on this side -because the field trip kids sit on the west side.
(Wed. it's $10 for an adult -kids under 13 FREE)

We pack a lunch in the wagon and it works great.

So what is SLACK?  All rodeo participants must qualify in order to make it to the finals on Th F Sat Sun. -So basically it is the qualifying round. Every participant has to race in SLACK.

The difference between the Finals, and Slack is the Finals has less participants (the best) and so you see a large variety of events. Whereas on Monday and Tuesday you will see maybe half of those events. -Usually tie-down, and team roping.
(I am in no way an expert on this, but this is how I have understood it)

This year we are going on Tuesday and Wed.

COME ALONG! -All are invited. The more the better!

If you have more questions go to:

Or reply to the post, and I can try to answer them.

Bountiful Baskets

Hi. This is Mariah, I'm the volunteer site coordinator for the Bountiful Baskets site at DeGrazia Elementary School. Cherise asked if I could post some information about the process.

At this point all the Tucson sites are offered during week A only. All sites are conventional basket sites, not organic.

I don't know how to embed links, but the site is bountifulbaskets.org

The easiest way to get going is to sign up for the newsletter at the above site. When it's time to order Sally & Tanya (the head coordinators) will send out an email with a link you can click on to contribute.

Each time a different assortment of produce comes. I've had fun trying new things and figuring out new ways to prepare old things. There's always different stuff, but I've noticed there are a few that come quite often...bananas, lettuce, tomatoes, broccoli or cauliflower, strawberries, and potatoes. These don't come every time, but fairly regularly. During the winter months we're getting different varieties of oranges/mandarins and apples. Over the summer we got lots of different varieties of grapes and berries. The rest is a wide variety of other fruit and veggies. You can't pick or choose what you want. A truck comes with everything packed in big boxes and volunteers distribute equally among all the baskets. I DO NOT like celery, so when something like that comes I trade it with my mom for something I like and she doesn't after we get home.

In addition to the baskets a variety of breads and extras are usually offered for an additional contribution. My son is soy and lactose intolerant, so feeding him is obviously expensive and difficult. I love the bread because it's just basic wheat, yeast, salt, honey type of ingredients and it tastes good too. :-) Also, there is usually some kind of "bulk" offering. Over the summer I was able to get a big flat of blackberries for jam. My mom canned cherries, pickles, and peaches from the bulk items she was able to get through bountiful baskets.

When you come to pick up you'll need to bring your own container to transfer all the produce into to take home.

Friday night a list of all the participants, along with other paperwork, is uploaded to a private site for the volunteer coordinators. I print all those lists off and have them at the distribution site. Each person signs before they get their basket. If you also got any of the extras you'll need to sign a second time for those.

When you are processing your order be careful to contribute once. If you're not sure if it went through or not give it some time before you try again. If something happens and your order goes through multiple times you'll receive multiple baskets. They are very strict about not giving refunds for accidental double, triple, etc orders. In the past when someone has ended up with more baskets than they can use they have been able to find family or friends to pass them too. One lady ended up with 4 baskets because she thought it wasn't going through, but it was. Most of the time you won't need your receipt, BUT if your name doesn't show up on the list for some reason the receipt is the only way to prove you've contributed. So, I always suggest that you bring that with you too. We can't figure anything out with a driver's license or the debit card used; volunteer site coordinators don't have access to any of that information.

If you don't show up you'll get a very early call from me or someone else reminding you to come get your produce. If we can't get a hold of you the order will be donated to a fire station. I try to hang onto the produce till Saturday afternoon to give people a chance to contact me. When you're entering all of your information on the order form make sure to put a phone number that will reach you on a Saturday morning. If I only have a work number it will be donated before you get the message Monday morning.

Hopefully this answers the questions out there. If you have any additional questions let me know and I'll answer them the best I can. It's a fun thing that I've really enjoyed. Anyone who wants to volunteer, we start distributing at 6 am. ;+D

Bountiful Baskets

I have had questions regarding how much you receive from Bountiful Baskets. So here is a picture of the produce I picked up. Laura and I split an order, which came to be $8 per person, we split what you see here.
If you want to participate ask Cherise, Kati C. or me and we can give you the info.

Dinosaurs in the Park

Dinosaur Day
Thursday, February 4th
10-11am

at the gated park at Misty Brook & Silverbell
(in the case of rain, we'll do it at my house)

If you never got a chance to go to the Trex museum here in town before they closed their doors, this is your chance to see what they were all about.  They are going to be coming to our neighborhood park to give a hands on presentation where the kids get to touch real fossils, see pictures, and ask questions.  Then they'll get to do a "fossil dig" where each child gets to dig for and take home real fossils like 80 million year old shark teeth, ammonites, crinoids, etc. Feel free to invite your friends. It's going to be fun :)

Your Help Is Needed!!

Hi Ladies,

This morning I read the first presidency official address regarding Haiti: http://newsroom.lds.org/ldsnewsroom/eng/news-releases-stories/first-presidency-appeals-to-church-members-to-help-people-in-haiti

And the church has asked that, "members.. donate to Church Humanitarian Services as their means allow in order to help our Haitian brothers and sisters."

I thought of an Idea: Cookies For Haiti

I was wondering if you would be willing to bake a couple dozen cookies and bring them to me by next Thursday Feb 11th. I am going to package them really cute (with a "Cookies For Haiti" sign on each of them) and have some cute kids I know sell them around gladden farms for $1 per pack (I was thinking three cookies per package).

The proceeds will be donated to the Church's Humanitarian Emergency Response fund.

Please e-mail or call me if you are interested in helping!

Thanks,
Danielle

Stinky countertops

Okay ladies- I need some help. My granite countertops have started to stink like mildew or something. We have been in this house for 9 months and it has never happened before. I just use soap and water to clean them and a clean rag. Does anyone have any ideas to get them to stop stinking? I have also tried the Clorox anywhere spray and Clorox wipes but they dont work. Any ideas? Anyone?

It's Back!!

I love this deal that winkflash.com does and this year they even offer different sized books for the flat rate sale!

http://www.winkflash.com/books/

I usually get the 8x10 for about $19 with 100 pages. (not including S&H) They are also offering one for 12.95 (8x8) with up to 100 pages. Offer end Jan 27th.

Get it started now, one year I had a hard time working on it on the last day because everyone else was too!

I would love to hear about it if you make one! I love this deal! normally it would be over $60 to get that many pages! $20+/- for 20 pages and $0.50 for every page after that!

Disney for Free

I'm sure most of you have seen the commercials about the new Disney Parks promotion. It's called "give a day, get a Disney day". You sign up at www.disneyparks.com and you select an organization to volunteer with. After you complete their requirements you get a voucher for a free day at a Disney park. The program is good for ages 6+. The Community Food Bank (including the Marana Farm) is one of the organizations participating in this program. I think this is a great opportunity for us to serve in our community, plus get something fun for ourselves. I just confirmed my volunteer day and the time requirement is 3 hours. How can you beat 3 hours of work for a ticket worth $72?

Call To Action

I have been getting more and more disgusted by the advertising coming from Carls Jr. OneMillionMoms.com is urging moms all across the country to voice their disgust at the advertising being used.
(1) CKE Restaurants is a hamburger business catering to family yet they consistently have used s*x to try to sell their product.
(2) In 2003, Hardee's (Carl's Jr.) featured Hugh Hefner as a poster celebrity.
(3) Hardee's also used an er*tic ad featuring a mechanical bull and a scantily clad female.
(4) In 2005, Hardee's used a p*rnographic ad with Paris Hilton using sleazy movements to sell burgers.
(5) In 2009, Hardee's featured their new "Biscuit holes." In the ad, various customers individually name them using such verbiage as B holes, A holes, dingle balls, and biscatles (as in testicles).
(6) In 2009, Carl's Jr. has just launched its newest in a series of raunchy s*x-laden ads. You may have seen the new salad commercial with the scantly dressed lady eating salad in the bath tub.
The *s keep our site g-rated. :-)

What you can do? Their complaint line # is: 1-877-799-7827.

Please call and voice your disgust to Carl's Jr.

Favorites!

Do you have Favorite Deals or Finds -that you just LOVE??

Here are a few of mine:

Floor Sweeper/Dustbuster
I have the Orek version of this (which is now discontinued) but this is the next best thing out there. I even checked consumer reports and this rates very well. I have used this particular model at my mother-in-law's and love it.

In my opinion must haves are:
  • dustbuster (that is removeable)
  • cordless
  • lightweight (so my boys can do it)
  • has the option of doing a quick job on the carpets (not to replace a floor vac)

    I use this [AT LEAST] 3 x's a day.

Lip Gloss
This amazing lip gloss from victoria secret (thanks for the tip Nikki!)
It stays on forever and doesn't gum up and get gross (make sense??) -plus it is shimmery :)

(my favorite flavor/color: Strawberry fizz) $7 ea. or 2 for $12

Cloth Swim Diapers
You can purchase (during the summer) Cloth Swim Diapers.
I think they are around $10ish at Target. Huge $ saver and more comfortable.
-sorry no picture, couldn't find one... but you get the idea.

Vinegar
Yes. Don't be afraid. This stinky stuff is AMAZING.
-I use this for fabric softner(I swear it doesn't make your clothes smell)
-Carpet Rinse -to release and soap residue
-In my sink to get rid of nasty lingering smells
-In the wash to counter act urine smell from my little boy's accidents :)

Here are more amazing uses for Vinegar

Dry Cleaners
On Ina/Thornydale there is a Dry Cleaning place (name?). It's located on the North West Corner of Ina/Thornydale- Same Plaza as Big Lots/Radio Shack/McDonalds.
There prices are 1.75 per item or 2.50 for coats/jackets or specialty items. They do a sufficient job and it's cheap. Love it.
What are a few of your favorite finds?? Please post!

Girl Scout Cookie Time

http://blog.gracobaby.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/graco-girl-scout-cookies.jpg

It's Girl Scout Cookie time and I have 173 boxes of cookies looking for a home.
They are $4 per box.

Do-Si-Dos®: A sandwich cookie. The round, bumpy perforated oatmeal cookie top and bottom surrounds a peanut butter-flavored layer inside.

Trefoils: These shortbread cookies are shaped like the Girl Scout Trefoil design.

Lemon Chalet Cremes™: Featuring a design of Our Chalet in Switzerland, a beloved Girl Scout World Center, this sandwich cookie has a touch of cinnamon-ginger spice that evokes the warmth of a fireside chat on a snowy evening.

Thank U Berry Munch™: New for 2010. Real premium cranberries provide a delightful tartness in these hearty cookies sweetened with creamy, white fudge chips.

Dulce de Leche: Inspired by the classic confections of Latin America, these sweet, bite-size cookies are rich with milk caramel chips.

Thin Mints: The most enduring and universally familiar Girl Scout cookie. These round, mint-flavored cookies covered with dark chocolate perennially sell the most boxes of any cookie.

Samoas®: These are round doughnut-shaped cookies about two inches in diameter with a hole in the center, covered in caramel and toasted coconut, and then striped with chocolate.

Tagalongs®: These are round cookies with a layer of peanut butter on top, and covered in chocolate.

We deliver free to those in Marana. Call 407-6364 and ask for Stephanie!

Dishwasher distress!

Anyone else notice that lately their dishwasher is leaving a
chalky film all over their dishes? I don't know if the water
company is using harder water, but for several months
now my dishes don't look clean when they come out of
the dishwasher. I was talking with Autumn and Alisa
about this a few weeks ago, and Alisa told me about this
product called Lemi Shine. I ran out and bought it the
next day.You have to run it through your empty
diswasher first, and then after several uses I noticed
a big difference. I've used it for a few weeks now,
along with dish detergent, and my dishes are now
coming out clean! Yea! It's not cheap- I think it was
about $4 at Walmart for a small container that lasts
a couple weeks. It was worth it to me. Check out their
website for details
www.envirocontech.com/products/Learn-More-about-Lemi-Shine.html
Thanks for the great tip Alisa! Just thought I'd pass it along!

DVD

I saw on Stephanie's Savvy Savings blog a couple months ago an offer for a free "Team GeoTrax" DVD and I ordered it. Well, Fisher Price sent me 3 of the exact same DVDs today.  Would anybody like one of my two extra? Might be a good stocking stuffer for a toddler/pre-schooler boy.

LEAPSTER GAME

In my moving, I found this game that was given to my daughter 2 years ago from her great grandma for her birthday. It didn't work with her game system and I never exchanged it. It has never been open (the box is a little torn on the back), but essentially it's brand new. If anyone wants it, let me know and you can have it!

Eggplant

I have 6 large eggplant veggies I just got from our garden this morning. If you want some/all  let me know and you are welcome to have it! (A lot of people ask what you do with eggplant. I used our other eggplants to make Eggplant Parmesan--but there are multiple recipes using eggplant online too.) If you've never tried it here's a chance without paying $1.50 per eggplant at the grocery store (at least last time I looked that's how much each one was...)

Pumpkin Recipies

Do you have a great pumpkin cookie recipe? or pumpkin muffins? I am feeling like pumpkin something today... Chocolate chips included... :)

Looking for a Babysitter??

This is an email I received and thought some might be interested. Jen??? :)

Hello. I came across your blog - and I thought I'd send you a quick e-mail to let you know I'm a babysitter in the area. I live in Continental Ranch and Nanny for a family in the neighborhood and also for a family in Continental Reserve. I also occasionally watch a family Gladden Farms. I'm 24, and a graduate of the University of Cincinnati (Criminal Justice). While in school I was a nanny for a family of two boys, 3 days a week. I also helped out at an in home childcare for about a year. I have been CPR certified (Infant, Child & Adult) many times in the past, but that needs to be renewed. I also took a class on Allergies(form the Red Cross I believe) while working at the in-home childcare.

I have a ton of experience, references and a resume upon request. I love crafts, baking, and being outside - I usually try to incorporate these activities while I'm babysitting.

While I have a regular babysitting job, I'm always looking for extra hours here or there. Whether you need me to get the kids out of the house for a couple hours, watch them while you do some shopping, or watch them while you go out for the evenings...

(I have her info... send me an email if you are interested)
-Cherise
