Stinky countertops

Okay ladies- I need some help. My granite countertops have started to stink like mildew or something. We have been in this house for 9 months and it has never happened before. I just use soap and water to clean them and a clean rag. Does anyone have any ideas to get them to stop stinking? I have also tried the Clorox anywhere spray and Clorox wipes but they dont work. Any ideas? Anyone?

Vinegar. seriously. Dilute it a little if you want, and put it in a spray bottle. Spray it on and let it sit for a bit. It will smell like vinegar until it drys.

good luck :)

I will look more into it, but I think a few drops of tea tree oil in some water would do it easy. Call me if the vinegar didn't work! (But I bet it will!)

the vinegar didnt work - maybe it needs a double dose - I'll try again and then call you Kati :)

so did the second dose work? I have tea tree oil and lemon oil that would do great, or try putting baking soda on it, then cutting a lemon in half and scrubbing it w/ half the lemon. then wipe it off w/ water.

As you know granite has pores and bacteria can grow in it. If straight bleach doesn't work or a high powered hydrogen peroxide (9-12%) you might also want to try 409 stone cleaner.

I know this is really old thread, but could you tell me what ended up working for you? I'm having the same problem. Thanks!
